BASRA TRAINING (Bahama Air Sea Rescue Association)

Peter joined BASRA as a volunteer which includes things like being called in on a rescue at sea....and muscle work on the pontoon boat to keep it ready to go at a moments notice....polishing, scrubbing, fixing.
These are pics preparing to do a training session - rescue at sea and relocation of an injured person from their boat to the BASRA pontoon.
They practiced boat-to-boat rescue which includes side-to-side tied off, bow-to-bow not tied off (used for heavy seas and quick transfer) and sling transfer which involves the boats not being tied off together and the rescue gernie/board being relocated from the pontoon, across the water, over to the injured person/vessel...and back again...a rather large task to say the least.
BASRA consists of only volunteers and is reliant on donations to cover all costs - and yet they are the first call from a vessel in distress or a person aboard a vessel who is in need of medical attention.  Our good friend Tom holds the post of answering the calls and coordination of rescue tactics.
